Beach Boys

Whoever said guys “can’t have fun with fashion” was wrong.
Sure, you’ve got your basics; pants, shirts, outerwear,
but style is all in presentation.

This Summer, make an effort to stand out from the crowd.
Gone are the dark and drab colors of Winter –
now is the time to embrace brights colors and loud prints!

(Ralph Lauren shirt $22, Penguin swim shorts $16)

Take a cue from surf style and 1960’s beach films –
citric hues and plaid never looked so good!

(Sperry Topsiders $22, Woodcrafty necklace $15, Laced Alternative tshirt $28, French Connection shorts $38 NEW)

If you’re not into loud prints and colors, go with a look that’s more au natural. Golden yellows, like the Sun, and earthy textures will have you looking like Kahuna and hanging ten in no time.

(Vintage Wedgefield shirt $10, reversible shorts $24)

When preping for the beach, make sure to have your baggies. But don’t sport just any regular pair of shorts – make ’em doggers! Offset a printed pant with a solid top to keep it cool.

(size 9.5 Saks Fifth Ave loafers $78, Merc polo $15 NEW, BDG shorts SOLD)

Not in to the Americana version of beach style? Take inspiration from across the pond and go Mod! A simple combo of red, navy, and white will do the trick.

Now that you’ve got your look down, let’s go Surfin’ Safari!

Dress Your Vest

Consider the vest;
and under-utilized piece that has the ability to transform a basic look.

As we’ve been receiving more and more vests in the shop,
we decided to do a post to show how you can incorporate this garment in your daily wardrobe.

(size 8 Christian Louboutin heels $228, Good Girls Studio earrings $26, Pink Tartan shirt $122 NEW, Banana Republic pants $22, Express vest $12)

Vests are typically seen in business apparel – but that doesn’t mean they have to be boring. Ditch the white shirt for a wild animal print and choose a vest with an unexpected element. This one has a all-lace back!

(size 6.5 Gucci sandals $126, earrings $6, belt $12, size large Ella Moss top $36, size 8 Oscar skirt $78 NEW, Glam vest $26)

A looser vest is an updated and easy-to-wear version. Try wearing one draped over a flowy top, and belted: this look is flattering on anyone.

(Cole Haan flats $46, Erin Brown Designs earrings $20, belt $12, Band of Outsiders dress $110, Haute Hippie vest $188)

Layering a vest over a t-shirt dress is slimming and a great way to stay warm on those cool summer nights. Try this using neutral pieces with a brightly colored belt.

(size 6 Cole Haan wedges $98, Jill’s Jewels earrings $18, Joan & David belt $26, Michael Stars shirt $24 NEW, Snak skirt $22, Project E Vintage vest $14)

To truly rock a vest, wear it in a print that’s sure to catch attention. You can even go a step further and try the mixed-prints trend. The trick is to keep both prints in the same color scheme and of similar scale/proportion. This is your chance to really have fun with color!

As summertime arrives
it’s time to ditch your LBD for something white.
That’s right, a littleĀ white dress is your must-have item for the season.

So get over your fear of stains (hello, bleach!),
and make sure not to wear your bright pink undies,
because white is totally the new black.

(size 6.5 Marc Jacobs heels $120, Jill’s Jewels earrings $18, Trende Femme broach $29, J. Crew cardigan $14, size 2 Thread Social dress $80)

Anything eyelet is the epitome of Spring. Spice up an all-white dress with pops of bright colors – try this season’s hot color, coral.

(Talbots flats $28 NEW, Good Girls Studio headpiece $42, silver cuff $68, size small Calypso dress $78)

For a “hippie-chic” aesthetic, accessorize a simple dress with a headpiece. The statement jewelry is sure to attract attention and is a lovely compliment to the silver embroidery in this Calypso dress.

(size 6 Cynthia Vincent heels $88, Good Girls Studio earrings $28, cuff $16, Cole Haan belt $36 and handbag $108, Laundry tank top $28, size 4 Obakki dress $98 NEW)

A Grecian-style dress is a truly classic look. To make the silhouette more modern throw on a belt and add texture-rich accessories; dark brown and bronze tones look fabulous with a Summer tan!

(Steve Madden heels $40 NEW, earrings $8, vintage handbag $26 and scarf $4, size 2 Thread Social romper $188)

Not a fan of dresses? Try a romper! The best of both worlds; you’ll look ultra chic while retaining your comfort. We love this look with red and navy accessories – keep it simple and playful.

These Shorts Were Made for Walkin’

Forget Daisy Dukes;
longer shorts are in for Summer.
Bermuda or walking shorts are a new sophisticated.
Sport the longer length as a day-to-day look,
then vamp it up for night.
And yes, you can even wear this more conservative length to work.

(size 10 Tila March wedges $198, Lucky Accessories necklace $30, size 8 Plenty top $58, Chaiken shorts $30)

When working with a longer hemline, it’s okay to go more bare on top. This pretty combo is perfect for browsing the Flea Market or having lunch with friends.

(size 8 Bally slingbacks $158, bracelet $26, Adam Lippes top $50, Bobby Jones shorts $34)

When dining out this summer, dress up your shorts with a printed blouse and a strappy heel. You can enjoy eating outside without a care in the world.

(Liz Claiborne flats $18, Coach handbag $88, Kim Rogers top $8, Delias shorts $10)

For a business-casual look, find a sleek pair of black shorts. Contrast a dark bottom-half with a feel-good color blouse. This coral top is a hot hue this season and does well to brighten one’s day.

(Andre Assous wedges $34, gold belt $8, 120% Lino blazer $110, size 2 Rebecca Taylor top $62, Ralph Lauren shorts $16)

If you prefer more fashion-forward workwear, try incorporating the high-waist trend. Although trousers may be a bit masculine, the gold accents and feminine blouse make this look professional and chic without making you look like one of the guys.

Color Me Coral

Pantone calls it “Tangerine Tango”,
others may say it’s peachy,
or a blood orange.

But forget the name.
The important thing to know is coral is the IT color for this season.

Here’s how to pull off the hue without looking like a traffic cone.

(Gillian Julius cowboy boots $26, Barr + Barr handbag $140, size 2 Rebecca Taylor top $90 NEW, Vigoss Studio shorts $12)

Show off your Southern style by wearing a coral top with warm-toned leather accessories. Nothing completes this look like a pair of cut-off jean shorts – just don’t go too Daisy Duke.

(Jean-Michel Cazabat wedges $98, earrings $16, Michael Stars top $36, Ditto shorts $26)

If you like more of a red-orange, balance this intense color with white. There’s a little nautical inspiration here; the buttons on the shorts to the combination of white and gold.

(Cole Haan heels $62, bangle set $22, belt $4, Cable & Gage top $12, Fidelity Denim jeans $58)

If you’d like a little more nautical flair try adding stripes to the mix. A 70’s style trouser-leg jean compliments the ensemble’s theme and makes your legs look incredibly long when worn with high heels.

(size 6 Pedro Garcia wedges $138, Alex & Ani bangle set $58, Elizabeth & James top $38, J. Crew shorts $18)

If you have a more bohemian vibe, wear this color trend in a solid and a print, and don’t be afraid to mix in a few other colors! Abstract prints and flowy tops are totally Hippie Chic.
