One dress, four occasions

You purchased a dress for your birthday celebration,
wore it for the night, and it hasn’t seen daylight since.
Just because the dress – and you in it – made an impression
doesn’t mean you can’t wear it out again.
“I never wear the same dress twice” is a silly saying,
especially when you can totally revamp the ensemble
to make it feel brand new again!

We’ve taken a gorgeous Tibi dress from the shop
and transformed it for four different events.
Take note and use these tips next time you have a wedding, shower,
or cocktail event to attend.

(size 6 Tibi dress $98, earrings $12, clutch $10, Jessica Thomas necklace $36, size 6 Cole Haan heels $62

Here is the birthday dress; it’s bright, flirty, cut to perfection and has a hint of sparkle. Paired with killer heels and stand-out jewelry, this look ensures the Birthday Girl to be at the center of attention. But just because the spotlight isn’t on you doesn’t mean you can’t still rock this frock…

(Tibi dress with Benetton cardigan $16, earrings $16, Club Monaco bracelets $20, Antik Batik handbag $56, Andre Assous wedges $34)

It’s also perfect for that wedding you’ve been invited to! To subdue the shine add a lightweight cardigan – this also makes dress more conservative. You can still sparkle, just keep the accessories simple and to a minimum.

(Tibi dress with Cynthia Steffe jacket $76, earrings $14, Bullhead handbag $178, Steve Madden heels $24)

Oh, and that baby shower for your old college friend? The dress works for this occasion, too! Nothing says “babies” like bright colors. Play up the hues in the dress with turquoise heels and a plum handbag. We love the shimmer on this Cynthia Steffe jacket; it accents the metallic in the dress while still feeling sophisticated.

(Tibi dress with Etro jacket $398, earrings $22, vintage belt $14, Paloma Picasso handbag $58, size 7.5 Tahari heels $68)

You may be surprised to discover this dress to also be suitable for a business event. For a cocktail party with professionals, put on a jacket that mimics the style of a blazer; it feels work-appropriate but a little more elegant. Also, you’ll want to eliminate flashy accessories – go for patent leather pumps in a rich burgundy and a luxe handbag in navy leather.

See? You’re options are endless!
If you need help transforming your once-worn dress, why not meet with our In-house Stylist for a one-on-one lesson; she’ll help you style your favorite piece for any occasion!

Star-spangled

Image

Happy 4th of July!
A week from today you’ll be eating burgers and watching fireworks;
hanging out with friends and family,
enjoying a beautiful Summer day.

It’s a time to get together and celebrate America.
It’s also a good excuse to buy a new outfit!

(size 6.5 J. Crew heels $98 NEW, Another Time belt $18, Trende Femme earrings $25, vintage Frank Olive hat $58, J. Crew shirt $16, Banana Republic skirt $18)

If you’re having a nice, Southern pot-luck go for a look that’s appropriately classy. We love a Liberty floral with Mary Jane’s, and a pop of red for the finishing touch.

(size 6.5 Gucci mules $126, necklace $18, J. Crew top $22, Cynthia Steffe pants $36)

Perhaps you’ll visit the beach or a near-by lake for this occasion – nothing is more enchanting than the sparkle of fireworks reflecting in the water. This situation calls for an ensemble that’s breezy and chic; try all-white with a colored jean. You could even do this look with bright blue pants!

(size 8.5 Tod’s flats $224 NEW, Anne Klein belt $16, earrings $8, J. Crew dress $48)

Going to an old-fashioned cook out? There’s nothing more appropriate than a belted shirtdress. This look is classic Americana and flatters every figure.

(size 9 Seychelles wedges $40, Trende Femme broach $25, Ralph Lauren Sport shirt $24, vintage 70’s skirt $28)

Going to a park for the day? Nothing could be better suited than this vintage plaid skirt! Off-set the mass of print with a white top, and don’t forget the wedges!

Pack Your Bags!

So you’re taking a trip, visiting a new city,
and you’ve made no plans other than where you’re staying.
So what do you pack??

It’s hard to know what to bring when you’re not sure what you’ll be doing.
And we all know how easy it is to overpack.
So we’ve done it for you!
With a few tips and tricks you can make sure to pack only one bag,
have plenty of outfit choices, and still leave room to bring back gifts.

(Jeffrey Campbell flats $38, Scarf $14, Velvet tank $16, size 4 Nanette Lepore shorts $60)

Let’s start with the basics: a versatile accessory, a solid-colored top, and a neutral bottom. A scarf is a great substitute for a necklace and can transform into a lightweight cover-up during a cool evening  on the town. By packing solid-colored pieces you increase the number of ways you can pair them. It’s best to stick to neutral bottoms that will compliment the tops you pack.

(Jeffery Campbell flats $36, necklace $14, Nicole by Nicole Miller cardigan $10, Velvet tank $16, Gap jeans $30 NEW)

We recommend you pack one light and one dark-colored bottoms; this way you have pieces appropriate for both night and day. By throwing on a printed cardigan and switching out the pants, we’ve taken the basic look to an ensemble more suitable for a nice lunch or a visit to the local art museum.

(BCBGirls heels $16, Coach handbag $58, necklace $42, small Anna Sui top $48, size 4 Nanette Lepore shorts $60)

Since your bottoms are neutral, we prefer something more vibrant on top – it draws the eye up! A print that can go for night or day is the perfect piece to pack. By replacing the Velvet tank with an Anna Sui blouse the look feels dressier. Oh, and don’t forget to bring heels!

(BCBGirls heels $16, small Anna Sui top $48, Gap jeans $30 NEW)

Just look at the difference it makes when you replace the shorts for a sleek pair of white jeans! What was once a “shopping spree” look is now a “going for drinks” outfit. Pants are more for evening but the white keeps the look sophisticated.

(Jeffrey Campbell flats $36, Coach handbag $58, Nicole by Nicole Miller cardigan $10, C&C California dress $24)

Last but not least, you’ll need a “Date Night” look. We love a dress that blurs the line between casual and dressy, meaning we love a piece that’s comfy and still makes us look beautiful! A hot pink cotton dress from C&C California does the trick. Pair it with a printed cardigan for coverage and added visual interest. For a different day the dress also makes a great swimsuit cover-up.

The most important thing to remember when packing light is to stick with a color family. Pick your favorite color and one or two accents. Bring two neutral bottoms, one solid and one printed top, a fun cover-up, and an simple but stunning dress – you’re all set!

European Tour

Are you enjoying some time out of the country this summer?
Perhaps you’re taking a trip through Europe,
or visiting family abroad.
Whatever the excuse; an exotic vacation is time to relax,
treat yourself, and be fabulous.
Which is why we’ve put together ensembles
to help you look your best while experiencing the best of Europe!

(size 6 Sue London flats $66 NEW, bracelets $10 and $6, Bullocks Wilshire belt $14, Via Spiga handbag $56, Eddie Bauer shirt SOLD, Theory skirt $68)

Let’s start in London – a thriving city full of history. Although it’s known for the rainy weather, Summers in London can be beautiful and sunny. We like a look that’s fresh and flirty while still playing on a classic British style. A delicate floral print and a lovely plaid skirt never looked better in this blue and white color scheme: it’s reminiscent of the English countryside with a hint of old-school Brit Punk. The Queen would surly give her seal of approval on this ensemble!

(size 7 Narciso Rodriguez heels $98, Joan & David belt $16, vintage earrings $12, Hobo backpack $60, Wii8 by Walter Baker dress $74 NEW)

As you cross the English Channel into France, the style changes slightly. As you know, the French are all about couture and therefore exemplify a more refined aesthetic. While Parisians wear black year-round, it’s nice to stand out from the crowd by wearing a brilliant hue. We love the vibrant blue and how the rich burgundy accessories add an air of sophistication.

(size 7.5 Brian Atwood sandals $68, J. Crew hat $22, Escada handbag $158, Adrienne Vittadini dress $28)

When you head to Italy, you simply must travel through the Swiss Alps for some amazing sightseeing. You will then find yourself in Milan; one of the greatest fashion capitals in the world. With this reputation you’ll want to look fashionable, but don’t try too hard! One of the tricks of Italian fashion is to appear effortless. A simple wrap dress in a warm brown will flatter your figure and enhance your tan. Keep your accessories to a minimum as to not detract from your natural beauty. A touch of red lipstick finishes off the look.

(Tommy Hilfiger wedges $28, Sydnor Works earrings $28, Alex & Ani bracelet set $58, vintage handbag $32, extra small Generra dress $66)

As your trip comes to an end, save the best place for last – Barcelona, Spain (our Stylist is a bit bias. Barcelona is an enchanting city on the Mediterranean that offers delicious food, gorgeous fashions (Spain was home to Cristobal Balenciaga!), and some of the most stunning architecture in Europe. Keep your look playful and a touch artsy with colorful prints. Of course, you can’t leave Spain without a traditional pair of espadrilles! We love this pair by Tommy Hilfiger, a blend of Americana and authentic Spanish style.

Faux Bois

If you don’t remember Rodarte’s SS ’11 line
here’s a refresher.
Even though the line is a year old, the trend is still new.
“Faux bois” or “fake wood” refers to a look that incorporates natural elements and woodsy prints.

Here are some Faux Bois looks found at Revolver…

(size 5.5 Manolo Blahnik heels $244, Louis Vuitton “Speedy” handbag $525, Lucky Accessories earrings $39, Liz Paiacios bracelet $38, Ms Pioneer jacket $78, Deletta top $22, Merona Collection skirt $12)

The easiest way to work this trend is by keeping it neutral. Create an outfit consisting of various shades of browns and rust to create interest. Variations in the yarn or intentional striations in the fabric give the illusion of bark without being so literal.

(Banana Republic clutch $22, Collection FiftyNine heels $34, Woodcrafty earrings $22, bangles $8 and $3, size 0 J. Crew jacket $64, Michael by MK top $22, size 4 Nanette Lepore skirt $68)

As seen in Rodarte’s line, navy can also be used with this theme. To keep the look from being too dark, pair navy pieces with lighter shades of brown; like camel or tan. These earrings designed by Woodcrafty (local artist) are the perfect finishing touch!

(Cole Haan handbag $98, Zara heels $26, Kate Spade sunglasses $58, Saola bracelet $86, J. Crew top $12, Moth cardigan $22, Banana Republic skirt $28

We’ve been seeing a lot of Mod-inspired nature prints coming though the store, and this skirt from Banana Republic is one of our favorites! This look is full of texture and we love the different shades of green.

(Gucci handbag $750, Enzo Angliolini heels $24, cuff $16, Cole Haan sunglasses $38, Haute Hippie cardigan $266, size 6 Trina Turk dress $120)

If you prefer a bolder look try adding a touch of tangerine, coral, or rust. These shades play nicely with the warm browns and olive greens seen in nature and add a modern vibe to the ensemble.
